It’s September! We’ve now progressed fully into Virgo season, which is traditionally a time when Summer is coming to an end. How’s everyone?

Unfortunately, we are heading towards a Mercury Retrograde again.

Erm… Again?

Yes, again. And we are already deep in its shadow period.

This time, Mercury retrograde will happen from the 11th of September for those of us living in Singapore, all the way to 2nd October. You can expect the effects of it to persist until the 17th of October.

In the previous post I’d written about Mercury Retrograde in May, I’ve explained Mercury Retrograde- how it works and what it is about. You can look at that article here.

Mercury Retrograde from Sep to Oct 22: What’s going to show up and/or happen?

As usual, Mercury Retrograde will stir up themes of misunderstanding, disagreement, and miscommunication as well as other issues regarding the flow of information and expression of ideas. Like I’ve previously mentioned in May’s article, its effect on a person is contingent on where it’s happening in their natal chart, what planets are being hit and whether it is happening within the range of affected degrees. Rather than catastrophizing, do consult an astrologer to know how it will affect you.

Below is a little breakdown and explanation of the general themes, issues and energies that will be brought up by the upcoming Mercury Retrograde.

Mercury Retrograde in Virgo

Who it’ll affect: anyone with planets in mutable signs such as Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces.

Mercury is particularly powerful in Virgo, which would make this retrograde particularly potent.

Thematically, the sign of Virgo is about fixing problems, troubleshooting situations and organising what’s at hand in order to get things moving effectively and efficiently. Since Virgos are the repairman of the Zodiac, you can expect this Mercury Retrograde to bring up breakdowns in your life that needs to be looked at and fixed- whether it’s in the workplace, relationships, or home life.

If you are affected by this variant of the Mercury Retrograde, don’t be in a rush to deal with the issues at hand in the usual way- you have to take some time, slow down and do a diagnostic of the situation at hand before making your intervention. Unfortunately, Virgo deals with the minute details, which means you can’t run away from looking at the nooks and crannies of your situation. This is especially so if you have Sagittarius and Pisces placements since you are more prone to ignoring the details.

Additionally, some of us who are undergoing a Neptune transit in the sign of Pisces may feel torn during this period. While the Mercury Retrograde in Virgo is trying to get you to deal with the breakdowns and the problems, the Neptune in Pisces is really questioning the point of it all- whether, at the very end of it, it’s all going to matter in the grand scheme of things. In fact, those of you who are affected by this double-whammy might be tempted to just escape and run away from it all, perhaps because the problem, the mess and the situation seemed too big and overwhelming for you to do anything about.

Remember that, at the end of the day, it’s all about balance: deal with the problems you can fix and let the rest go- especially those over which you have no control. It doesn’t need to be perfect.

Embrace the mess.

Mercury Retrograde in Libra

Who it’ll affect: anyone with planets in cardinal signs such as Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn

Libra is thematically about relationships, harmony, pleasantries, niceties, and contractual agreements. Particularly, Mercury in Libra is all about negotiation and diplomacy. So, those who are affected will be moved into finding compromise as well as making decisions that allow for a win-win to happen.

Remember that it’s not about what you want, or what you think is right. It’s also very much about the other person and what the relationship/contract/agreement needs.

It’s also not uncommon for people to ‘fudge’ what they are saying when Mercury Retrograde happens in Libra so that they may sound nice, pleasant and appealing. Do remember to speak your truth so that you may also be fair to yourself- you are a part of that relationship as well so what you bring to the table is also valid and mustn’t be ignored or glossed over.

Additionally, Jupiter is also retrograding in the sign of Aries which is currently getting us to re-evaluate our opportunities of growth and certain ways of being which we deem to be ‘rightful’. The Mercury Retrograde in Libra will present a period for us to move into moderation around these opportunities and what we think is ‘right’ as well as a way to re-evaluate and plan how we can take these opportunities of growth further for the rest of the year.

Mercury Retrograde is always a great time to journal. Here are some prompts for you!
