Blindfold Vinyasa

One of our most powerful senses is our eyesight, and we use a substantial amount of our brain activity to collect and process visual data. When we blindfold ourselves, we activate the power of our inner sight, our intuition, to see without seeing. Our other senses are heightened, creating a powerful sense of presence and concentration. We have to rely on other senses, to feel with our feet and hands, to develop spatial awareness and move through postures with our attention turned inwards, all on to ourselves. This class is a 90-minute practice including all of the typical elements of a Vinyasa class.

What to expect and what’s in it for me?

Our eyesight is our most relied upon sense, so once this sense is eliminated from our yoga practice, inevitably, there is no choice but to turn inward and get in touch with the heightening of our other senses. In this special practice, the enhanced concentration brings much greater presence and mindfulness to your practice. Alongside the heightening your other senses, you may also experience your inner dialogue, judgements, and ego become louder when placed in this ‘darkness’. It’s a fun and empowering ride recommended for all brave and curious yogis who want to learn more about themselves.

Each session ends with a period of quiet guided reflection, that will help you focus your mind and become more sensitized to your inner workings, energy levels and intuition. Moving and breathing are preparatory exercises to help achieve this state, and over time help us enter meditation more directly.

About the facilitator, Fatin Syahirah

"Yoga has been a big part of my life close to 10 years, and my practice has helped me grow stronger, be more flexible and fearless, on and off the mat. Through my practice, I have learnt to live each moment more mindfully. Trained in movement and performance from Bali and Singapore, I also completed my 200 hour Hatha Vinyasa training with Yoga Mala (SG). I will always be a student of the practice and am deeply grateful for the loving wisdom my teachers have shared with me. In my classes, I love to combine creative sequencing, a spirit of playfulness and a dose of inspiration to help you deepen your practice. I seek to help others thrive in live by nurturing body, mind and soul with yoga, and my hope is that you step off the mat feeling refreshed, nourished and balanced."
